Why Erik Ten Hag Has Made Eight Changes To Manchester United Starting Line Up Vs Barnsley

Why Erik ten Hag has made eight changes to Manchester United starting line-up vs Barnsley

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has made eight changes to his starting line-up for the Carabao Cup fourth-round clash with Barnsley.

The Dutchman has made wholesale alterations from the side that beat Burnley 2-0 in the Premier League on Thursday night.

Only Antony, Bruno Fernandes and Jadon Sancho have kept their places in the team.

Ten Hag has made a number of changes in defence, with Victor Lindelof, Lisandro Martinez and Tyrell Malacia all coming into the side.

Luke Shaw and Harry Maguire drop out, while Diogo Dalot has been switched to right-back.

In midfield, Scott McTominay and Christian Eriksen have been replaced by Fred and Donny van de Beek.

In attack, Facundo Pellistri has been given a chance to impress, with Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial dropping to the bench.

The changes suggest that Ten Hag is taking the Carabao Cup seriously and is keen to give some of his fringe players a chance to impress.

Barnsley are a League One side, but they have already knocked out Premier League opposition in the Carabao Cup this season, beating Burnley in the previous round.

Ten Hag will be aware of the threat that Barnsley pose, and he will be hoping that his team can avoid an upset.
